Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN) has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Cubicure GmbH, a pioneer in direct 3D printing solutions for polymer additive manufacturing. Cubicure is known for its innovative materials, equipment, and processes in the field.
The company’s patented Hot Lithography technology allows the processing of highly viscous resins to create tough and temperature-resistant polymers, revolutionizing 3D printing.
Align and Cubicure have a history of successful collaboration in direct 3D printing. The acquisition of Cubicure will not only strengthen Align’s Digital Platform but also expand its expertise in this strategic area.
Srini Kaza, Align’s senior vice president of product research and development, highlighted the acquisition’s potential to drive innovation in digital orthodontics and 3D printing.
Align Technology President and CEO Joe Hogan emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Align’s acquisition of Cubicure, which began as a joint development program, aims to scale direct 3D printing operations and enable the production of millions of custom appliances per day.
The acquisition will bolster Align’s intellectual property portfolio and 3D printing capabilities while extending its materials and manufacturing expertise. The transaction is valued at approximately €79 million, subject to customary closing adjustments, and is expected to conclude in Q4 2023 or early 2024.
