SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: BlueScope, a leading global steel company, has announced a significant expansion of metal coating capacity at its Erskine Park site in New South Wales, reaffirming its commitment to Australian manufacturing and meeting rising customer demand.
The newly approved $415 million expansion project includes the addition of a metal coating line (MCL7) with the capacity to produce up to 240,000 tons per annum of BlueScope’s premium metal coated products, including ZINCALUME® steel, TRUECORE® steel, and key components for the renowned COLORBOND® steel range.
This expansion, a vital part of BlueScope’s future investment priorities, will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of steel building and construction products. The project, subject to NSW Government planning approval, is projected to become fully operational by the end of 2025. The revised capital cost reflects broader project scope and inflationary pressures.
Mark Vassella, BlueScope’s Managing Director & CEO, emphasized the strategic significance of the investment. “This significant investment in Australian manufacturing will better enable us to meet our customers’ growing demand for steel building and construction products — in particular, TRUECORE’s steel light gauge steel framing and feed for COLORBOND® steel for roofing and walling applications,” stated Mr. Vassella.
The expanded metal coating production capacity will not only address increased demand but also enhance the company’s ability to provide exceptional service to its customers. The announcement ceremony was graced by the presence of Federal Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen MP, alongside key members of BlueScope’s Australian Steel Products leadership team.
BlueScope’s commitment to bolstering manufacturing capabilities underscores its dedication to the local market and reinforces its position as a global industry leader in steel production.
