Volex becomes a licensed partner of Tesla for NACS EV charging system

LONDON, UK: Volex plc, a leading manufacturer of critical power and data transmission products, has announced that it is a licensed partner of Tesla for the North American Charging Standard (NACS) EV charging system.

Volex is one of the selected global manufacturers of the authentic NACS coupler, which is compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network and other NACS-supporting charging stations. Volex is ready to supply automotive OEMs and charging infrastructure suppliers with the NACS coupler immediately.

NACS, also known as the Tesla charging standard, is an electric vehicle charging connector system developed by Tesla, Inc. It has been used on all North American market Tesla vehicles since 2012 and was opened for use to other manufacturers in 2022.

NACS is currently being standardized as SAE J3400 by the automotive standards organization SAE International. NACS has gained momentum behind the current widely adopted Combined Charging System (CCS) standard, with major auto manufacturers such as Ford, GM, Rivian, and Volvo announcing support for NACS in their upcoming EV models.

Nat Rothschild, Executive Chairman of Volex, commented on the partnership with Tesla: “As a selected supplier of the NACS coupler, this further validates that Volex continues to be the trusted manufacturing partner of Tesla’s charging system technology to the world’s leading EV manufacturing companies and suppliers who utilise the NACS EV charging system.”

Volex is a specialist integrated manufacturer of power cords, cable assemblies, high-speed copper and fibre optic interconnect solutions, and related products. Volex serves customers in the medical equipment, data centre, electric vehicle, industrial, consumer electronics, and telecommunications markets. Volex has operations in 14 countries across Europe, North America, and Asia.
