Helium One appoints James Smith as new Chairman

LONDON, UK: Helium One Global (AIM: HE1), the primary helium explorer in Tanzania, today announced that James Smith, currently Non-Executive Director of Helium One, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Company with immediate effect. Smith replaces Ian Stalker, who has decided to step down from his position after five years in the post to reduce the number of his non-executive roles.

Smith is an experienced Director with over 35 years of experience in the natural resources sector. He has extensive expertise in the oil and gas industry, having held senior positions at Chevron Corporation, PanOcean Energy and also VP Exploration at Tanzanian focused Orca Exploration. Smith has been a member of the Board of Helium One since listing in December 2020.

Stalker has overseen a period of significant achievement for Helium One, from the Company’s successful listing on AIM to the maiden drilling programme at Rukwa, as well as guiding the Company ahead of their second drilling campaign in Rukwa in September.

Stalker commented: “Whilst there is never a good time to step down as Chairman, I do so in the knowledge that the Company is in excellent health. To say that this is an exciting time for the Company is an understatement, we have an exceptional team in place to successfully deliver our forthcoming programme at Rukwa and proving up the potential that we believe is inherent at Tai-C.”

Smith commented: “I would firstly like to thank Ian for his invaluable contribution at Helium One; he leaves the Company in very sound health at what could be a transformational time as we embark upon our next drilling campaign. I am delighted to be asked to be Chairman and look forward to continuing to build on Ian’s legacy and working with the team, utilising my specific oil and gas expertise as we look to become a strategic player in contributing towards the supply of Helium at a time when the market demand is so high.”

Helium One is the primary helium explorer in Tanzania, holding 2,966.10km2 of exploration licences in highly prospective helium provinces. The Company holds 100% of these licences and has exclusive rights to develop the assets. There are three distinct project areas within the Company’s portfolio in Tanzania: the Rukwa, Eyasi and Balangida Projects. The Helium One team will leverage their combined technical, industrial, and corporate experience to advance these assets towards production, capitalising on the current highly compelling global helium market fundamentals.
