The U.S. chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced that it will invest around $400 million in India over the next five years and will establish its largest design center in the country in the tech hub of Bengaluru.
The announcement was made by AMD’s Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster at the India Semiconductor Association’s annual Vision Summit, a virtual conference that started on Friday.
According to AMD, the new design center campus will be opened by the end of this year and will create 3,000 new engineering roles within five years. The campus will span over 500,000 square feet and will house multiple teams working on cutting-edge technologies such as graphics, computing, artificial intelligence and cloud.
“India is a key market for AMD and we are committed to expanding our presence and capabilities in the country. Our India teams will continue to play a pivotal role in delivering the high-performance and adaptive solutions that support AMD customers worldwide,” Papermaster said.
He added that AMD’s investment in India reflects its confidence in the country’s talent pool and its potential as a global innovation hub.
AMD has been operating in India since 2004 and currently employs over 2,500 engineers across its offices in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai. The company said that its India teams have contributed significantly to the development of its flagship products such as Ryzen processors, Radeon graphics cards and EPYC server chips.
