Inflection AI, a startup that develops chatbots using generative AI technology, has raised $1.3 billion in a new round of funding from several Silicon Valley heavyweights, including Microsoft, Nvidia, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates and Eric Schmidt.
The startup, which was founded by LinkedIn co-founder Hoffman and Google DeepMind co-founder Suleyman, said it will use the funds to expand its team, scale its platform and develop new products.
Inflection’s chatbot, Pi, was launched in October 2023 and allows users to interact with it through natural dialogues. Pi uses the same technology as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a viral bot that can generate realistic conversations on various topics.
The AI sector has been attracting a lot of attention and investment in recent months, as companies look for ways to leverage the technology for various applications, such as customer service, education and entertainment. However, the sector also faces challenges such as ethical issues, regulatory scrutiny and competition.
Inflection AI said it aims to create chatbots that are trustworthy, transparent and beneficial for society.
“We believe that generative AI has the potential to transform how people communicate and learn from each other. Our vision is to create chatbots that can engage with users in meaningful and respectful ways, while also providing them with useful information and insights,” Hoffman said in a statement.
Suleyman added: “We are thrilled to have the support of some of the most influential and visionary leaders in the tech industry. With their backing, we are confident that we can build a world-class platform that will empower millions of people to have better conversations with AI.”
