Posted on June 28, 2023June 28, 2023

On June 27, 2023, Triumph Motorcycles officially revealed the first two bikes resulting from its highly anticipated collaboration with Bajaj. The collaboration aimed to develop small and mid-displacement motorcycles, and after much anticipation, Triumph introduced the 2024 Speed 400 and the 2024 Scrambler 400 X. This article will focus on the Scrambler 400 X, providing an in-depth overview of its features and specifications.

2024 Triumph Scrambler 400 X

Unveiling the Scrambler 400 X and its Dedicated TR-Series Engine

Both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X from Triumph’s collaboration with Bajaj feature single-cylinder engines developed specifically for these motorcycles. The Scrambler 400 X is powered by the all-new TR-series engine, a liquid-cooled 398.15cc single-cylinder unit. Delivering an impressive 39.5 brake horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 27.6 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 rpm, this engine boasts a four-valve configuration, Bosch electronic fuel injection, and electronic throttle control. It is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

Design and Chassis Features of the Scrambler 400 X

The Scrambler 400 X shares a hybrid spine and perimeter frame design made of tubular steel with the Speed 400. Its rear subframe is bolted on, and the swingarm is a two-sided cast aluminum alloy. The front suspension comprises 43mm upside-down Big Piston forks with 5.9 inches of wheel travel, while the rear suspension offers a preload-adjustable gas monoshock with 5.9 inches of travel. Braking is handled by a single four-piston radial caliper and a 320mm fixed brake disc in the front, accompanied by a single floating caliper and a 230mm fixed disc at the rear. Bosch dual-channel ABS is a standard feature on the Scrambler 400 X.

Wheels, Dimensions, and Additional Features

The Scrambler 400 X sports 10-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels, with a 19-inch wheel in the front and a 17-inch wheel in the rear. These wheels are fitted with Metzeler Karoo Street rubber. The bike has a wheelbase of 55.8 inches, a rake of 23.2 degrees, and a trail of 4.3 inches. The fuel capacity matches that of the Speed 400, at 3.43 gallons. The claimed curb weight of the Scrambler 400 X is 395 pounds. Notably, the bike includes ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control, and a torque-assist clutch. The dash features an analog speedometer with an integrated LCD screen, controlled by a handlebar-mounted scroll button, and a standard USB-C charging port.

Styling, Colors, and Launch Details

The Scrambler 400 X boasts LED lighting all around, incorporating integrated turn signals where regulations permit. However, in markets with separate turn signal requirements, slight variations in appearance may occur. Triumph will offer the Scrambler 400 X in three two-tone color schemes: Matt Khaki Green/Fusion White, Carnival Red/Phantom Black, and Phantom Black/Silver Ice. The motorcycle is set to debut in India in July 2023, with subsequent releases in other markets during Q1 of 2024. Pricing details will be announced alongside availability and will be competitive with key competitors in each market.
