During the Xbox Games Showcase held in June 2023, Microsoft made an exciting announcement for gamers eagerly awaiting new console options.
The tech giant revealed the introduction of a new variant of the Xbox Series S console, aimed at buyers looking to enter the Xbox ecosystem or those seeking an additional “S” model to accompany their existing “X” console.
Starting from September 1, gamers will have the option to purchase the Xbox Series S in Carbon Black with a 1 TB drive, offering increased storage capacity.
Microsoft explained that the decision to release this new model was influenced by feedback from consumers who desired a console with greater storage right out of the box. This demand comes as no surprise, given the growing number of game titles on the market that can quickly consume substantial storage space, often exceeding 100 GB each.
For existing Xbox Series X owners, Microsoft assured them that the new Xbox Series S in Carbon Black would perfectly complement their current console, featuring the same matte finish. However, if users already own the current Xbox Series S with the 512 GB drive, there is no significant reason to upgrade. The performance level remains unchanged, making a drive upgrade for the current Xbox a more sensible option. Nevertheless, for those who find the Carbon Black color particularly appealing, the 1 TB Carbon Black Xbox Series S will be available for $349.
The announcement of the new console variant came amidst the Xbox Games Showcase, where Microsoft showcased highly anticipated titles, including the much-awaited “Starfield.” During the event, fans were treated to gameplay examples and in-depth details about the upcoming game. For PC gamers who do not own an Xbox console, “Starfield” will be available for purchase on Steam starting September 6, provided their hardware meets the necessary requirements.
For those looking to purchase the new Xbox Series S console, pre-orders are now available on the Microsoft Store. Alternatively, gamers can opt for the Xbox Series X, priced at $499.99. The Xbox Series X comes with a default 1 TB drive, a more powerful processor, a built-in 4K disc drive, and support for true 4K resolution, in contrast to the Series S model’s 1440p resolution. Regardless of the console choice, both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X will support “Starfield,” with performance details yet to be unveiled.
