Emirates Considers Additional Airbus A350 and Boeing 777X/787 Orders to Meet Future Demand

Emirates Considers Additional aircraft

Emirates President Tim Clark announced on Tuesday that the Dubai-based airline is considering ordering additional aircraft from Airbus and Boeing as it looks ahead to future demand in the aviation industry.

During a global airlines meeting, Clark revealed that Emirates is exploring the possibility of acquiring more Airbus A350s, Boeing 777Xs, or 787 jets to bolster its fleet. However, he did not disclose the exact number of aircraft under consideration.

“We are looking at both more A350s, more 777-9, and possibly the 787 range,” Clark stated in his comments to reporters.

The Boeing 777X family consists of two large twin-engine aircraft: the 777-9, which can accommodate around 400 passengers, and the smaller 777-8. The entry into service for these models has faced significant delays due to certification and engine development challenges.

Emirates had initially placed an order for 150 Boeing 777X jets but later reduced it to 126 aircraft. As part of a revised deal in 2019, the airline also ordered 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Clark expressed cautious optimism regarding Boeing’s ability to resolve the issues and deliver the new aircraft on schedule. He stated that he is “perhaps a little more confident” and expects to receive the first 777X in the final quarter of 2025.

Emirates, known for its extensive fleet of wide-body jets, is constantly evaluating its options to meet future demand and maintain its position as a leading global airline. The potential aircraft orders will play a crucial role in Emirates’ long-term growth strategy as it looks ahead to the aviation landscape of the 2030s.
