LONDON, UK: InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, has announced that Jolyon Bulley will take over as the new CEO for the Americas region, effective from 1 July. He will replace Elie Maalouf, who will become IHG’s Group CEO on the same date.
Jolyon is currently the CEO for Greater China, IHG’s second-largest market, where he has been leading the growth and profitability of the business since 2018. He is also the Group’s Transformation Lead for Luxury & Lifestyle, overseeing the development and performance of IHG’s brands in this segment.
Jolyon has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry and has held various senior roles at IHG since he joined the company in 2001. He was previously the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Americas region from 2014 to 2017, where he was responsible for the operations and performance of IHG’s franchised and managed hotels, as well as strengthening owner relationships. Before that, he was the COO for Greater China, where he played a similar role in managing the region’s hotel portfolio and brand performance.
Jolyon will be based in Atlanta in the US, where he will return to his family home. IHG is in the process of finalising succession planning for his responsibilities in Greater China. In the meantime, Daniel Aylmer, Managing Director for Greater China, will report to Elie and continue his duties in China.
Keith Barr, outgoing Group CEO, said: “Jolyon is a highly respected leader who has made a tremendous impact on IHG over his more than 20 years with us. He has held senior positions in our two biggest markets and has a deep understanding of our business, our brands and our owners. His appointment as Americas CEO reflects IHG’s commitment to developing our leaders’ potential, ensuring robust succession planning and maintaining our existing growth strategy for the Americas region.”
Elie Maalouf, outgoing Americas CEO and Group CEO Designate, said: “I am delighted to welcome Jolyon back to the Americas business, where he has a proven track record of delivering results and supporting our growth. As COO, he redesigned and enhanced how we work with and serve our hotel owners. As CEO for Greater China, he guided the region through the pandemic and into the recovery, further strengthened our owner relationships and continued to grow the business at pace. I am confident that Jolyon will be a great addition to the Americas leadership team and I look forward to working with him in my new role as Group CEO.”
Jolyon Bulley, outgoing Greater China CEO and Americas CEO Designate, said: “I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead our Americas business alongside our many talented colleagues and in partnership with our hotel owners. I have been passionate about the hospitality industry my entire career and I am excited to build on Elie’s legacy in the region, focusing on capitalising on strong owner and guest demand for our amazing brands and our attractive enterprise platform.”
