Smiths Group plc, a leading engineering company, has announced that Steve Williams will be appointed as the new Chair of the Board, subject to his election as a non-executive Director at the Company’s Annual General Meeting to be held on 16 November 2023.
This appointment is part of the Company’s orderly succession planning activities. Sir George Buckley, the current Chair of the Board, will retire from the Board of the Company at the conclusion of the AGM.
Steve Williams brings over 40 years of global business experience, having served in senior executive positions at Suncor Energy, ExxonMobil, and Alcoa Corporation, where he is currently the Chair. He is also a non-executive director of Enbridge Inc. With a degree in engineering and a clear focus on ESG, Williams has a strong track record of creating value for customers, shareholders, employees, and communities.
