Samsung Ranks Second in Global Tablet Market, Leads Android Segment

Samsung has once again secured the second position in the global tablet market. According to IDC’s latest report, the South Korean tech giant shipped 7.1 million tablets in the first quarter of 2023, which is a 14.3% drop compared to the same period last year. Although Samsung has seen a decline in tablet shipments, it remains the world’s largest tablet brand in the Android segment.

Apple still leads the overall tablet market with 10.8 million shipments in Q1 2023, but this is a 10.2% drop compared to Q1 2022. Despite seeing a massive 62% drop, Amazon is still in the top five rankings with 1.4 million shipments. Huawei shipped 2 million tablets, but its sales are limited to the Chinese market. Lenovo saw a massive drop in shipments as it shipped just 1.9 million tablets in Q1 2023 compared to 3 million shipments the previous year.

However, despite the decline in tablet sales in Q1 2023 compared to Q1 2022, the overall sales are still higher than pre-COVID-19 levels. This clearly shows that consumer demand for tablets has increased over the past few years.

With the launch of more tablets from the likes of OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, and Vivo, the tablet market has seen a much-needed refresh. Even Google will launch its first Pixel-branded Android tablet later this month.

Samsung plans to launch three high-end tablets in July or August of 2023—the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. These tablets are expected to feature impressive Super AMOLED screens and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor. The higher-end models will also have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

Despite the stiff competition, Samsung’s dominance in the Android tablet market is a testament to its commitment to innovation and technology. With the launch of its new high-end tablets, Samsung hopes to maintain its position and attract more consumers to its products.
