Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) has reopened orders for its long-range version of the Model 3 sedan in the United States, after temporarily halting orders in 2022 due to delivery backlogs. The move comes as the electric vehicle maker tries to boost sales of its entry-level sedan and regain market share in the highly competitive EV market.
According to the company’s website, the long-range version of the Model 3 is currently priced at $47,240, which is about 18.5% lower than the $57,990 price tag it had last August, when Tesla halted orders in the US and Canada.
The company is expected to resume deliveries of the long-range Model 3 in June. However, Tesla is still not accepting orders for the long-range version of the Model 3 in Canada, as per the website.
The long-range version of the Model 3 boasts a range of over 325 miles (523 kilometers) on a single charge, making it an attractive option for those looking for a vehicle that can go the extra mile.
To further incentivize buyers, Tesla has been regularly adjusting the prices of its vehicles since the beginning of this year. Earlier this week, the company slightly raised prices in Canada, China, Japan, and the United States, after previously reducing them.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that the company is willing to sacrifice margin for sales volume in the face of a weak economy, but is also looking to move prices back up where possible, to match deliveries with output.
The electric vehicle maker has been ramping up production of the Model 3 at its factory in Fremont, California, in an effort to meet strong demand for the vehicle.
Tesla faces tough competition from other EV makers like Ford, General Motors, and Rivian, which have all launched or plan to launch new electric vehicles in the coming months.
The company’s decision to reopen orders for the long-range Model 3 could be seen as an attempt to stay ahead of the competition by offering a vehicle with a longer range and lower price tag than some of its rivals.
