Dyson has announced its plans to invest £100 million in a new technology facility in Bristol as part of its expansion of robotics centres throughout the UK.
The vacuum and battery manufacturer will employ hundreds of software and artificial intelligence engineers at the new site to create innovative products and apps. Dyson’s commercial and ecommerce teams for Britain and Ireland will also be located at the facility.
The new team will work on a range of products that will extend a decade into the future. Currently, Dyson has 3,500 employees working on research and development in the UK.
In addition, Dyson plans to invest £166 million in an R&D campus in the Philippines. The company is also working towards completing the construction of a next-generation battery plant in Singapore with the aim of selling batteries by 2025.
The founder, James Dyson, said that the new battery technology will drive a significant revolution in the performance and sustainability of Dyson’s machines.
Dyson shifted its investment focus with the relocation of its headquarters to Singapore in 2019. According to the company, the decision had “nothing to do with Brexit,” and the tax benefits were “negligible.”
Dyson has been at the forefront of technological innovation and recently launched a new technology space in Harrods’ Knightsbridge department store. The company also created headphones that include a purifying visor designed to protect people from air pollution in cities.
