PARIS, FRANCE: Nexans, a global cable and cable systems provider, has announced the launch of a new range of low-carbon distribution grid cables, the first of its kind in France.
The company has successfully reduced greenhouse gas emissions in its low- and medium-voltage cables by 35% to 50%, depending on the product, by adopting a holistic approach throughout the value chain and cable life cycle.
The company has targeted reducing the cable industry’s carbon footprint, as the manufacturing of one kilometer of energy network cable generates a volume of CO2 that is two to three times the average annual emissions per inhabitant in France.
The group’s new approach includes the guaranteed use of 100% low-carbon aluminium, the use of up to 50% recycled plastic, targeted actions on the manufacturing process and transport, and increased selectivity in the choice of suppliers based on their environmental performance.
The company has also introduced innovative cable solutions and digital solutions to increase productivity while reducing carbon emissions. Nexans is recognized as a global leader in climate action and is aiming to reduce its emissions by 4.2% per year between 2019 and 2030.
