Starting Friday, OnePlus’ debut tablet, the OnePlus Pad, is now available for pre-order after previously being teased earlier this year. The tablet can be purchased for $479 and is available for shipping to the US and Canada.
In addition, buyers have the option of purchasing a magnetic keyboard for $149, a stylus for $99, and a folio case for $39 to complement the Android tablet. The tablet boasts an all-metal design and is available only in “halo green,” with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The tablet is expected to ship on May 8.
According to CNET’s Andrew Lanxon, who previewed the tablet at the Mobile World Congress trade show, the tablet feels good in hand. The OnePlus Pad features an 11.6-inch display with a 7:5 aspect ratio, making it perfect for reading books, browsing the web, and going through documents.
Lanxon praised the 9,510mAh battery as “capacious,” with OnePlus claiming that it supports 14 hours of video playback and up to a month of standby time. The tablet can also be fully charged in 80 minutes or less.
OnePlus claims that the OnePlus Pad is ideal for multitasking and can run up to 24 applications in the background. However, the tablet is entering a crowded market that already includes devices from Samsung, Apple, and Amazon. CNET considers Samsung’s premium Galaxy Tab S8 Plus, which costs almost double the OnePlus Pad at $900, to be one of the best Android tablets on the market.
