American Airlines extends 5 routes through winter due to strong demand for travel to Europe

American extends 5 routes

American Airlines has announced an extension of five of its European routes past September, according to data from Cirium. This move comes as a response to the strong demand for travel to Europe.

The airline will continue flights from its hubs in Dallas, Charlotte, and Philadelphia, and will add more than 300 flights in November and December due to the alteration of its schedule.

The extended routes include Charlotte to Madrid, Philadelphia to Barcelona and Lisbon, and Dallas to Dublin and Rome. Flights were scheduled to end between October 27 and 28 but will now be available year-round, with flights scheduled through the end of March 2024.

The Philadelphia to Barcelona route has two gaps in the schedule between September 2023 and March 2024, which may be due to delayed aircraft deliveries.

American Airlines will fly to 13 European destinations this winter, with a drastic increase year-over-year in flights to Europe from Dallas, Charlotte, and Philadelphia. The carrier will fly daily to Auckland until February 14, 2024, and then thrice weekly until March 2.

American also flies seasonally from Dallas to Auckland, and flights will resume on October 28 and run through March 2024.

Meanwhile, United Airlines has announced its largest-ever schedule and expansion to the South Pacific region, resulting in increased competition on routes between the United States and the South Pacific. United Airlines has the largest schedule of any American carrier flying between the two regions.

American Airlines’ decision to extend its European routes past September suggests a strong demand for travel to Europe, with winter travel picking up. The airline’s extension will provide more options for travelers and increase connectivity between the United States and Europe.
