Dr Kerry Schott to take over as acting board chair of the Australian Rail Track Corporation for the financially troubled Inland Rail project.
Infrastructure Minister Catherine King and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher made the announcement of Schott’s appointment, replacing current chair Peter Duncan, who will be taking a three-month leave of absence to serve as acting secretary of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet in NSW.
Schott’s review of the Inland Rail project found it had blown out to more than $31 billion, almost double what was projected three years ago.
The Albanese government has accepted all 19 recommendations made in the review. During Schott’s three-month tenure, she will focus on recruiting a permanent CEO for Inland Rail and addressing governance and board capability issues.
