Upgrading your fire department tools

Posted on May 3, 2022November 29, 2022

Each fire station in the UK should regularly inspect its tools for risks and damage. Indeed, any efficient fire station should be stocked up with a full array of well-maintained, up to date tools. Below, we explore how you can upgrade your fire station tools.

Hydraulic rescue tools

Hydraulic rescue tools are crucial for fire stations. These are used to assist in the extrication of victims involved in vehicle accidents by prying open small metal spaces. Without hydraulic tools, it can be extremely difficult to free a critically wounded victim in time for them to receive intensive care. By having the latest hydraulic cutters, rams and spreaders, you should be able to quickly and efficiently help victims.

Chainsaws

Chainsaws are also crucial for fire-stations. They’re important in emergencies when you need to quickly cut through trees or clear a road to reach victims. As such, you should invest in cordless fuel-powered chainsaws: these are cordless tools that allow for mobility, precision and power when you’re conducting a rescue. Chainsaws are extremely dangerous tools though, so you should ensure that all personnel are trained to operate them, and you should also provide all staff with adequate PPE.

Chimney rods and hose

Fire stations will often have to deal with chimney fires. Indeed, research suggests that there were 7000 chimney fires alone in the UK last year. As such, fire stations should invest in chimney rods and hoses in order to clear these fires out. On top of this, rods can be used to unblock sewers and ducts, making them an essential tool to upgrade your service with.

Drones

Drones are the latest technology being used to try and combat fires more effectively. When tackling a large blaze, it can be useful to have a wide aerial view to help fire station leaders to calculate how best to tackle the fire. As a result, you should invest in a reliable drone with high-quality cameras. On top of this, personnel will need to be trained to operate the drone effectively, to allow you to get the best footage possible.

Fire stations need the best tools possible to adequately protect the public and the environment. And by following the advice above, you should be in an excellent position to upgrade your tools and allow your fire station to run efficiently and effectively.
