Civitas Social Housing win the AIC's Best ESG Communication Award 1

LONDON, UK: Civitas Social Housing PLC has jointly won the Best ESG Communication award at this year’s Shareholder Communication Awards, hosted by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

The ESG Communication award recognises exceptional shareholder communication by AIC member investment companies and their managers, reflecting how an investment company can effectively communicate its approach to ESG, through reports, websites and other similar content.

The Company is committed to actively implementing our ESG principles evidenced by the recent announcement of a programme of environmental enhancements with EON, our ongoing mission to provide bespoke social housing for adults with long-term care needs and our drive to improve governance standards in the industry.

In the UK, there is a substantial unmet demand for social housing, and this supply-demand imbalance is especially severe for bespoke, specialist supported housing which provides homes for adults with long-term care and support needs.

Civitas is defined as an authentic ‘Impact Investor’ according to IFC Operating Principles. Independent research has demonstrated that the Company’s portfolio generated a total Social Value of £127.0 million including £75.9 million of fiscal savings for public budgets in the year to 31 March 2021.

Civitas works closely with housing associations, charitable and other not-for-profit partners to continue to enhance management and governance standards across the specialist supported housing sector and to ensure optimal outcomes for its underlying tenants. In addition, Civitas recently announced a national framework agreement with renewable energy provider E.ON to undertake environmental enhancements that will help to reduce the carbon footprint of the Company’s portfolio and save both maintenance and energy costs.

Andrew Dawber, Group Director, Civitas Investment Management Limited commented: “We are delighted to win this award from the AIC with so many strong competitors in the running. The award is a recognition of the work that our team and our partners have accomplished over a number of years to maximise positive social impact, help to further professionalise and strengthen our sector and to enhance our portfolio’s environmental performance.”
