AUCKLAND: Downer EDI Limited has been awarded a $245 million contract by ElectraNet Pty Ltd to upgrade the existing electricity transmission network supplying the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia and to upgrade electricity substations, a news release said.
Downer will commence work under the contract at the end of March 2021 and the new transmission line and substation upgrades are expected to take approximately 20 months to complete.
The new power line is scheduled to be energised by the end of 2022.
The Chief Executive Officer of Downer, Grant Fenn, said Downer was a leader in Australia’s power transmission sector.
“Downer is pleased to be involved in such a critical infrastructure project which will improve power security and reliability to Eyre Peninsula households and more broadly across South Australia,” Mr Fenn said.
Downer’s contribution to the Eyre Peninsula Link project will include a new 262 kilometre double-circuit 132kV transmission line from Cultana to Port Lincoln via Yadnarie, with the ability to upgrade the Cultana to Yadnarie section to 275 kV at a later date; and the upgrade of five substations at Yadnarie, Cultana, Middleback, Wudinna and Port Lincoln.
