SINGAPORE: Addvalue Technologies’ subsidiary Addvalue Communications Pte Ltd. has entered into a Teaming Agreement with AIOT Chile SpA (SmartDots), a Chilean company specializing in smart Internet-of-Things (IoT) solutions for the South America market.

Addvalue Technologies will provide a smart satcom-based digital IOT/M2M solution, using Addvalue’s Satellite Terminal Sabre Ranger 5000 as the primary communication device based on the Inmarsat BGAN M2M Satellite Service, for the Program of Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecosystem Observation in remote locations of the Chilean Patagonia so as to facilitate the carrying out of scientific research activities that will contribute to the amelioration of the local ecosystem.

The Project, funded by San Ignacio del Huinay Foundation which was founded by the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaiso and Enel Generación Chile, will overcome the problems of poor or unavailable cellular connectivity in the remote areas.

It will start with a field trial involving 2 sites initially and, if proven successful, to be followed by 60 remote sites in Chile, for environmental surveillance which includes weather, water level and animal monitoring.

If well regarded, the scope of the Project is expected to be expanded to the other parts of Chile and the rest of the Latin America.

Mr. Carlos Rojo, the founder of SmartDots commented: “Climate change is a serious growing global concern. As a technology company, we are very proud that the collaboration with Addvalue will enable us to remotely and reliably monitor and measure different environmental parameters in the Chilean Patagonia, and thereby allowing our scientists to analyse the relevant data so as to improve the environmental conditions of our local ecosystem.

“By combining Addvalue’s satcom-based IOT with our data analytics technology, we are well-poised to holistically address challenging issues facing the environment and certain industries, such as the mining industry, in Chile as well as the other countries in Latin America, thereby contributing to the digital transformation in our region in achieving sustainable economic growth.”

The satcom-based IoT solution to be provided by Addvalue, integrates various sensors for monitoring and data-logging weather conditions and water level, and, at a later stage, animal monitoring with LoRa connectivity, so that all the sensor data will be aggregated and backhauled in real-time over the Inmarsat satellite network, using Addvalue’s Sabre Ranger 5000 satellite terminal, to the Addvalue’s Application Server on the cloud.

The collected raw sensor data at the Addvalue’s Application Server are then parsed, cataloged and sent to the Web Portal of SmartDots which provides the necessary graphical user interface for end-user applications, including data analytics.

Dr Colin Chan, Chairman and CEO of Addvalue noted: ”We are elated with this partnership with SmartDots Chile as it not only marks our maiden foray into the Latin American market, it also allows our IOT/M2M solutions to play an integral part in contributing to the environmental sustainability program in that part of the world. This collaboration with SmartDots Chile lends credence that Addvalue has the technology and solutions which resonate well with the needs of the IOT/M2M industries around the world.”

Dr Chan added: “We expect the commercial rollout for the initial 60 sites of terminals to begin in the first half of 2021 after the imminent field trial, and the revenue on hardware sales and data services to be followed to grow into 7-digit figures in 2022 and beyond.“
