Texere Publishing, a rapidly expanding specialist scientific and medical publisher based in Knutsford, has been acquired by US-based healthcare media company BroadcastMed.
The acquisition marks another milestone in BroadcastMed’s aggressive expansion strategy, extending its reach to over 2.8 million healthcare professionals worldwide.
Texere Publishing, founded in 2012, has cultivated an impressive portfolio of titles that include The Analytical Scientist, The Cannabis Scientist, The Medicine Maker, The New Optometrist, The Ophthalmologist, The Pathologist, and The Translational Scientist. The company’s most recent addition, ID Transmission, launched earlier this year, focuses on infectious diseases.
With offices in the UK and the US, Texere employs approximately 60 staff members and generates more than 50 percent of its revenue from the North American market. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the company achieved consistent year-on-year growth, with a remarkable 30 percent increase in revenue over the three years leading up to December 2022.
The acquisition of Texere expands BroadcastMed’s global influence and bolsters its position in the healthcare media landscape. The investment in Texere is supported by 424 Capital, BroadcastMed’s growth capital partner.
Peter Gailey, President of BroadcastMed, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “Our acquisition of Texere widens BroadcastMed’s global reach and helps us expand the company’s influence, not only to its existing healthcare beneficiaries but also to new audiences in the science and technology fields, which drive better outcomes for all healthcare constituencies.”
Andrew Davies, CEO of Texere, expressed excitement about joining forces with BroadcastMed, highlighting the opportunity to better serve scientific and healthcare providers on a global scale. Tracey Peers, COO, added that combining Texere Publishing’s media portfolio with BroadcastMed’s resources aligns with their vision for growth, enabling them to extend their reach to the scientific and healthcare community while delivering increased value to their audience and partners.
The acquisition provides an exit for Texere’s investors Mercia and AXM Venture Capital, who initially supported the company in 2012 through investment from the North West Fund. The deal also allows Texere’s founders, Andrew Davies and Tracey Peers, to realize their investment in the business while continuing in their current roles to drive the company’s growth strategy.
Mercia, one of the investors, reported a 4.5x return on its initial investment. Will Clark, MD of Mercia’s Regional Venture Funds, commended Texere’s accomplishments, stating, “Texere has built a strong team, a portfolio of successful titles, and a global readership in the space of just a decade. Its achievements are all the more remarkable given the challenges that publishers have faced in recent years. This deal will allow it to continue its growth as part of a larger media business.”
