Nordic Semiconductor to acquire U.S. based Mobile Semiconductor

OSLO, NORWAY: Nordic Semiconductor ASA has entered into an agreement to acquire Mobile Semiconductor, a privately-held U.S. company specializing in highly optimized embedded memory technology for microcontrollers (MCUs) and Systems-on-Chip (SoCs).

Seattle-based Mobile Semiconductor was established in 2006 and currently has 10 employees. The acquisition is expected to close during Q3 2022 pending U.S. government approval, a statement said.

Mobile Semiconductor has a market-proven track record of delivering ultra-low power-performance-optimized, leading-edge static RAM (SRAM) memory technology for various MCUs and SoCs.

The company has long provided the RAM memory used in all of Nordic’s market leading wireless IoT devices including its nRF52 and 53 Series Bluetooth SoCs and nRF91 Series cellular IoT SiPs.

Nordic regards ultra-low power operation a vital sustainability requirement in IoT, and memory is becoming increasingly important given that IoT applications are becoming ever more capable and high performance. Bringing this expertise in-house will position Nordic extremely well for developing highly optimized future products and maintain its industry-leading ultra-low power-performance ratios.

Nordic Semiconductor has been a pioneer in ultra-low power wireless solutions, from proprietary technologies for PC accessories to today’s Bluetooth low energy and multiprotocol products and long-range cellular IoT solutions.

Nordic Semiconductor is the clear market leader in the ultra-low power wireless segment, serving a growing market in consumer electronics, wearables, building and retail, healthcare and an increasing number of other verticals and applications. Nordic Semiconductor (NOD) is a public company listed on the Oslo stock exchange in Norway.
