
CRYSTAL LAKE – AptarGroup, Inc. (NYSE: ATR), a global leader in dosing, dispensing and protection technologies, said on [Current Date] it has acquired Sommaplast, a Brazilian provider of specialized oral dosing packaging for pharmaceutical products.
The deal strengthens Aptar’s footprint in Brazil and positions it to capture growth in the country’s expanding over-the-counter (OTC), nutraceutical and oral liquid drug markets. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded over 20 years ago, Sommaplast produces closures, droppers, dispensers and dosing cups from its facility in São Paulo, employing more than 400 people. Aptar has operated in Brazil for 25 years and runs manufacturing sites in Cajamar, Jundiaí, Maringá and Camaçari.
“This acquisition is expected to further reinforce our footprint in the region,” said Gael Touya, President of Aptar Pharma. “It also helps position us to capitalize on Brazil’s fast-growing oral dosing markets, driven by an expanding population, rising middle class and aging demographic.”
Touya added that Aptar plans to extend Sommaplast’s commercial reach and product offerings while maintaining its “family-owned company DNA.” The companies expect operational synergies by combining Aptar’s global network with Sommaplast’s injection molding expertise and customer relationships.
Aptar, headquartered in Crystal Lake, Illinois, provides packaging solutions for pharmaceutical, beauty, food and beverage markets. It employs over 13,000 people across 20 countries.
