Google is set to release its highly anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagship phones in October, with rumors and leaks already giving us a glimpse of what we can expect from these devices. Both phones are expected to be unveiled via a livestream event in early October, with a release date later in the month.

The Pixel series has always been known for its impressive camera capabilities, and the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are no exception.

Leaks suggest that both phones will feature a redesign to the iconic camera bar, with the Pixel 8 Pro sporting a flat 6.7-inch display and the main, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses evenly placed underneath it.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 will use a 6.16-inch display and have a slightly thicker build than its predecessor, the Pixel 7.

However, both Pixel 8 models are expected to be more affordable compared to other high-end Android phones, with prices rumored to be around $599 for the Pixel 8 and $899 for the Pixel 8 Pro.

In terms of hardware, the Pixel 8 series is expected to use a Samsung Isocell GN2 sensor, an upgrade from the G1s found in the previous generation.

This upgrade could help Google cement its position as the best smartphone camera brand, with the staggered HDR technology allowing for improved detail and dynamic range in photos.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to have a maximum of 50MP, with the GN2 supporting Dual Pixel Pro, making it easier to take in-focus shots.

Google is also rumored to be developing new camera software tricks for the Pixel 8, such as the Video Unblur tool that allows users to improve the focus quality of blurry videos after they’ve been taken. The leaked code also suggests the addition of “Overlays” to videos, similar to photo filters.

Another significant change in the Pixel 8 series is the Tensor G3 chip, which Google will co-develop with Samsung.

Little is known about this chip so far, but it is expected to be a modified version of the Exynos 2300 with a Samsung 5G G5300 modem. The Pixel 8 may be one of the only phones to use this chip, as Samsung opted to use Qualcomm for its Galaxy S23 series.

While leaks have given us some insight into the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, there are still many unknowns about these devices.

We don’t have a specific release date yet, but it’s likely to be in late October, as with previous Pixel releases. There’s also no evidence yet of a Pixel Watch 2 release, which was previously rumored to coincide with the Pixel 8 launch.

In any case, Google fans and tech enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating the release of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. With impressive camera capabilities, new software features, and the promise of a cutting-edge Tensor G3 chip, these phones are sure to make a splash in the smartphone market.
