UAE: A new collaboration between OpenAI, a leading generative AI (GenAI) company, and G42, Abu Dhabi’s top AI firm, has been announced. The deal’s financial terms were not revealed.
The collaboration will explore the applications of OpenAI’s GenAI models in various domains, such as healthcare, energy and financial services.
The UAE has a strong technological edge, as highlighted by GlobalData’s 2023 macroeconomic review of the country. The UAE had the highest broadband and mobile penetration rates among all the countries in the Middle East and North Africa, according to GlobalData research.
The UAE also ranked 24th out of 132 countries in the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s 2021 Global Innovation Index.
In August, Inception, G42’s AI subsidiary, launched a large language model (LLM) trained on over 395 billion tokens of Arabic and English.
The LLM, named Jais after the highest peak in the UAE, is a “significant milestone” for the integration of Arabic in the AI world. Several organisations, such as First Abu Dhabi Bank and UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will use Jais in their operations.
G42 has been investing heavily in AI, forming a partnership with genAI company Cerebras Systems in July to launch Condor Galaxy, a global network of nine interconnected, cloud-based, AI supercomputers.
