Apple releases iOS update to fix heat issue in new iPhone 15 models

Posted on October 4, 2023

On Wednesday, Apple rolled out iOS 17.0.3, which includes a fix for a problem that made the new iPhone 15 models heat up. The software update notes say that it “provides important bug fixes, security updates, and addresses an issue that may cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.”

Apple acknowledged earlier this week that some users had reported that their new iPhones felt hot. Apple explained that the cause was a combination of some apps that needed to be updated, some glitches in iOS, and a normal set-up process that required more processing and heat generation.

The update on Wednesday fixes the glitches in iOS, the operating system of the iPhone. App developers are also releasing updates with fixes for their apps.

Apple said that the heat problem had nothing to do with the new frame design of titanium and aluminum on the Pro models, or with the USB-C charging port on the new phones.

Apple’s website says that it is normal for iPhones to feel warm when they are restoring from a backup, charging wirelessly, using apps or games with high graphics, or streaming high-quality video. Apple says that iPhones are safe to use unless they show a temperature warning.
