Oldcastle APG buys CertainTeed’s fencing, railing and decking business

Oldcastle APG, a subsidiary of CRH, a global building products company, has announced that it has acquired the fencing, railing and decking division of CertainTeed, a building products company based in Pennsylvania.

The deal includes CertainTeed’s manufacturing operations at a plant in Buffalo, New York, and another plant in Utah.

Oldcastle APG is a leading manufacturer and supplier of outdoor living products, such as pavers, retaining walls, mulch, stone and concrete.

The company said that the acquisition of CertainTeed’s fencing, railing and decking business will enhance its product portfolio and expand its geographic reach.

Ken O’Neill, president of Barrette Outdoor Living, a division of Oldcastle APG, said: “We are excited to welcome CertainTeed’s fencing, railing and decking team to our family. The site also provides us with a unique opportunity to further our ability to support our customers across the Northeast, Midwest and Canadian regions. The addition of the Buffalo plant to our national network is an important key in safeguarding our position as the top vinyl and aluminum fencing and railing provider in the country.”

CertainTeed is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, a French multinational corporation that specializes in construction materials. CertainTeed said that the sale of its fencing, railing and decking division is part of its strategy to focus on its core businesses of insulation, roofing, siding and drywall.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Oldcastle APG said that it will retain all the employees at the Buffalo and Utah plants and that the operations will continue as normal. The company also said that it was not in a position to comment on the ownership or occupancy of the Buffalo facility, which was built in 2005 at Lakeside Commerce Park.
