Volvo Trucks and Holcim, a Swiss building solutions provider, have signed a letter of intent for the delivery of 1,000 electric trucks over the next seven years. The deal is the largest commercial order to date for Volvo electric trucks.
The first 130 trucks will be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2023 and throughout 2024 to markets including France, Germany, Switzerland, and Britain. The remaining trucks will be delivered over the next six years.
The electric trucks will be used by Holcim to transport concrete and cement. By replacing 1,000 diesel trucks with electric versions using green electricity, Holcim could save up to 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
“This is a major milestone for us,” said Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks. “It shows that our electric trucks are ready for the mass market and that our customers are ready to make the switch to a more sustainable transport solution.”

The delivery of the 1,000 electric trucks is a major step forward for both Volvo Trucks and Holcim in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact. The trucks will help to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, making a significant contribution to the fight against climate change.
