Saputo Inc. is a Montreal-based Canadian dairy company founded in 1954 by the Saputo family.
Saputo produces, markets, and distributes a wide array of dairy products, including cheese, fluid milk, extended shelf-life milk and cream products, cultured products and dairy ingredients. It is one of the top ten dairy processors in the world.
After growing in its home region of Quebec, the company has expanded predominantly through mergers and acquisitions.
Saputo operates in Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia and the United Kingdom. The company’s products are sold in over 40 countries worldwide. It also operated in the UK and Germany from 2006 to 2013. Saputo is the largest dairy processor in Canada, one of the top three dairy processors in Argentina, and among the top four in Australia.
In the US, Saputo ranks among the top three cheese producers and is one of the largest producers of extended-shelf-life and cultured dairy products.
About half of its revenues come from its United States operations. Saputo used to own the Canadian rights to Hostess Brands products, including the Twinkie.
