Transurban opened Northconnex Project in Sydney

SINGAPORE: Transurban Group announced that it opened NorthConnex on 31 October 2020. The 9-kilometre twin NorthConnex tunnels connect the M1 Pacific Motorway and the Hills M2 Motorway in Sydney’s north suburbs, providing a critical missing link in the Sydney orbital network and national transport route.

NorthConnex will improve travel times and productivity for both commuters and freight transport and allow a traffic-light free trip from Newcastle to Melbourne.

Transurban CEO Scott Charlton said that with the opening of the NorthConnex project the business had opened almost 47 kilometres of underground motorways in just over a year in Sydney.

“Transport infrastructure continues to play a pivotal role in supporting liveability in Sydney, and projects like this one are creating jobs and generating growth.”

“NorthConnex is an important link in the Sydney network and the delivery of this project will increase the efficiency of freight moving around the city, while returning local streets to communities,” he said.
