AUSTIN: CLEAResult, the largest provider of energy efficiency, energy transition and energy sustainability services in North America, has acquired Connected Energy, a technology company that provides demand management and distributed energy resource management solutions to electric utilities across the U.S.
The acquisition deepens CLEAResult’s existing capabilities in demand management and DERMS, which the company has developed through years of utility partnerships and program execution, rather than charting a new business line. Connected Energy’s platform includes hardware-based direct load control technology and specialized agricultural demand response capabilities that extend into commercial, industrial and agricultural markets — an area where CLEAResult is already a market leader.
“There’s real pressure on utilities to manage demand and integrate distributed energy resources, and they need partners who can deliver,” said Rich McBee, president and CEO of CLEAResult. “Connected Energy has built technology that complements the capabilities we’ve already developed and accelerates our ability to support utilities facing those challenges. This acquisition is an investment in technology and expertise our clients need today.”
Connected Energy’s DERMS platform provides event orchestration, event optimization, data visualization and performance reporting for utility demand management programs. The company was founded in 2004 and serves utilities across the United States.
“Joining CLEAResult is the right next step for our team and our technology,” said Mark Rupnik, Connected Energy CEO. “We’ve spent years building solutions that help utilities manage demand and integrate distributed energy resources. CLEAResult gives us the scale and relationships to bring those solutions to more utilities while continuing to do the work we’re passionate about. We’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together.”
The acquisition comes as utility needs grow more acute, driven in part by surging data center demand and accelerating distributed energy resource adoption.
CLEAResult is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and has more than 3,000 employees in more than 60 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The company is majority owned by middle market private equity firm Kohlberg.
