PONTPIERRE: La Française de l’Énergie (FDE), a low-carbon energy producer, has acquired Romerike Biogassanlegg AS (RBA), an operational renewable natural gas facility near Oslo, following a competitive bidding process launched by the City of Oslo. The €4.5 million all-equity transaction closed June 30.

Deal Adds Cash-Generating Asset as Group Expands Nordic Low-Carbon Platform

The 4-hectare plant, located near Oslo-Gardermoen Airport, processes 20,000 metric tons of municipal biowaste annually, producing 15 GWh of RNG and generating more than €5 million in yearly revenue. The facility operates under a long-term offtake agreement with a major utility, supplying RNG to Oslo’s municipal vehicle fleet.

FDE said the acquisition aligns with its strategy to develop RNG infrastructure in Norway, complementing organic projects already underway. The company plans to boost operational performance immediately through its Norwegian subsidiary Alltec, working alongside existing RBA staff.

Expansion Plans Target 400 GWh Annual Capacity by 2028

In the near term, FDE aims to increase processed volumes and realize cost synergies to maximize EBITDA, with positive earnings impact expected in fiscal 2027. A second-phase retrofit will integrate Cryo Pur liquefaction technology to produce liquid RNG and liquid CO2, raising output to 75 GWh per year.

The acquisition adds to FDE’s Norwegian pipeline, which includes the Halsa biogas plant — on track for commissioning by late 2027 with 120 GWh annual capacity — and Stavanger and Alver facilities expected online in 2028. Together, the four plants would give FDE more than 400 GWh of annual RNG production capacity in Norway.

“This transaction is yet another example of our ability to capitalize on external growth opportunities in our strategic markets while developing our own projects through organic growth,” said Antoine Forcinal, FDE chief executive officer. “Establishing this long-term partnership with the City of Oslo gives us immediate access to an operational, cash-generative facility.”

The acquisition supports FDE’s 2030 targets: annual revenue exceeding €175 million, EBITDA above €85 million, and avoidance of more than 20 million metric tons of CO2-equivalent emissions per year.

FDE is an independent multi-energy producer committed to achieving Net Zero. As a specialist in short supply chains and the circular economy, FDE draws on its expertise-ranging from engineering and energy production to CO2 storage-to provide energy solutions that combine carbon footprint reduction with improved resilience of the ecosystems involved.
