IRVINE: Advanced Sterilization Products has acquired a majority share of UV Smart, a Dutch medical technology company specializing in ultraviolet high-level disinfection technology, the companies announced.
ASP, part of Fortive Corp.’s (NYSE: FTV) Infection Prevention group, said the deal bolsters its portfolio of infection control products and accelerates the global rollout of UV Smart’s disinfection systems across Europe and North America.
UV Smart’s flagship product, the D60, uses UV-C light to perform high-level disinfection of specialty scopes — including transesophageal echocardiography, or TEE, probes — in minutes. Traditional cleaning and disinfection processes for such devices can take hours, the companies said.
“This acquisition expands ASP’s ability to deliver innovative solutions to customers across Europe and North America,” said Chad Rohrer, president of ASP and group president of Fortive’s Infection Prevention Group. “It strengthens ASP’s portfolio while accelerating global adoption of UV Smart’s products.”
Daan Hoek, co-founder of UV Smart, said the company’s technology represents a meaningful workflow improvement for healthcare providers.
“Where current cleaning and disinfection processes of TEE probes can often take hours, UV Smart’s premier product, the D60, achieves high-level disinfection using UV-C light in just minutes,” Hoek said. “For healthcare providers, the D60 represents a significant improvement in efficiency and workflow.”
Founded in the Netherlands, UV Smart supplies hospitals and clinics in 35 countries. The company’s product line targets disinfection of cardiology, gynecology, TEE and ear, nose and throat equipment.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
ASP designs and distributes infection prevention solutions to medical facilities worldwide. Its parent company, Fortive, is a Washington state-based industrial technology corporation.
