Biotron appoints Glenn Gilbert as CEO and Executive Director
SYDNEY: Biotron Limited (ASX: BIT) announced Wednesday the appointment of Glenn Gilbert as chief executive officer and executive director, effective Jan. 18, 2027.
Gilbert, an ASX-experienced healthcare executive with more than 20 years in the pharmaceutical, medical device and in-vitro diagnostics sectors, has held leadership roles across Australia, the UK, Europe, Asia, and North and South America. His background spans quality, regulatory and clinical development, commercialization, manufacturing, international business development and capital raising.
He currently serves as CEO of Inspiring Holdings Ltd, a public unlisted company developing a medical device for enhanced delivery of inhaled therapies. He previously was CEO and managing director of ASX-listed Rhythm Biosciences Limited (ASX: RHY), an IVD company developing a blood test for early detection of colorectal cancer, and held senior roles at Medical Developments International Limited (ASX: MVP), where he led international commercialization of Penthrox, a methoxyflurane-based analgesic.
Biotron Chairman Paul Kasian said the board was delighted to welcome Gilbert.
“Biotron is entering an important phase in which disciplined clinical development, regulatory execution, capital management and commercialisation will be critical to unlocking the value of the Company’s intellectual property,” Kasian said. He added that Gilbert’s prior work on Penthrox is “particularly relevant as Biotron assesses the development and commercialisation pathway for SedRx and its antiviral programs.”
Gilbert said he was excited to join Biotron at an important stage of its development, citing the company’s intellectual property and development data across its antiviral programs and what he called a potentially significant opportunity in SedRx as a safer, next-generation general anaesthetic.
“My near-term priorities will be to understand the work completed to date, establish a clear development plan and capital allocation priorities across the portfolio, progress the most important clinical and regulatory pathways and ensure the Company is focused on the milestones that will create the greatest long-term value for shareholders,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert holds a Master of Business Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Corporate Management and a Bachelor of Science.
Under the terms of his appointment, Gilbert will receive a base salary of $250,000 plus statutory superannuation, with a reduced cash component offset by equity strongly aligned with shareholder value creation. He is eligible for up to 100 million unlisted options with an exercise price of $0.0041 under the company’s employee incentive scheme, issued upon achieving milestone conditions, and up to $230,000 in cash bonus payments subject to milestone conditions. The executive notice period is three months; the company’s is six months.
