METLEN, PETRONAS sign 5-year LNG supply deal for Greece
ATHENS: Greek industrial and energy company METLEN and Malaysia’s PETRONAS have signed a five-year agreement for the supply of liquefied natural gas to Greece, the companies announced Monday.
Under the sale and purchase agreement, PETRONAS subsidiary PETCO Trading (UK) Limited will deliver six LNG cargoes per year from PETRONAS’ Atlantic portfolio, totaling approximately 0.6 billion cubic meters annually. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027.
METLEN said the deal advances its strategy to diversify LNG supply sources and strengthens energy security in Greece and the broader Southeast European region. The company said it also reinforces Greece’s position as a regional energy hub.
“This agreement with PETRONAS represents an important step in strengthening METLEN’s strategy to diversify its LNG sourcing,” said Panayotis Kanellopoulos, METLEN’s chief executive director of international energy supply and trading. He said the partnership enhances supply flexibility and reliability for customers and the regional market.
PETRONAS Executive Vice President Datuk Adif Zulkifli said the agreement underscores the company’s commitment to providing reliable and flexible LNG solutions as markets balance energy security, affordability and transition priorities.
The companies said the partnership lays the foundation for further collaboration.
METLEN, listed on the London Stock Exchange and a FTSE 100 constituent, reported consolidated revenue of 7.11 billion euros ($8.3 billion) in 2025. The company employs more than 8,500 people across more than 40 countries.
PETRONAS, Malaysia’s state-owned energy company, operates in over 100 countries.
