MELBOURNE: Neurizon Therapeutics Ltd., a late-stage biotechnology company focused on neurodegenerative diseases, has appointed Dr. Chris Bremer as chief executive officer, effective Oct. 1.

Bremer, who holds an M.D., Ph.D. and MBA, brings more than 20 years of international pharmaceutical and biotechnology leadership to the role, a statement noted.

His career includes senior global executive positions at Grünenthal, where he served as executive vice president of early products and commercial opportunities and as interim chief commercial officer.

During his tenure at Grünenthal, Bremer executed on over $1 billion in licensing transactions, according to the company. He also led portfolio strategy across preclinical and clinical development and co-chaired the company’s integrated R&D-commercial governance board.

Most recently, Bremer served as chief development officer of Navigo Proteins and as founding CEO of GAIAsO Theranostics, an Australian biotechnology company focused on radiopharmaceutical approaches in women’s health.

Bremer’s appointment follows a comprehensive international executive search conducted by the board with Coulter Partners. He will be based in Melbourne and will initially serve as CEO without appointment to the company’s board.

The leadership change comes as Neurizon advances its lead drug candidate, NUZ-001, through Regimen I of the registrational Phase 2/3 HEALEY ALS Platform Trial. Topline results are expected in late Q2 2027.

“Chris joins Neurizon at an important point in the company’s development,” interim executive chairman Sergio Duchini said in a statement. “With enrolment in Regimen I of the HEALEY ALS Platform Trial complete, our focus is on disciplined execution through to topline results, while ensuring Neurizon is appropriately positioned from a capital, regulatory and strategic perspective for what may follow.”

Duchini said Bremer distinguished himself through his combination of medical and scientific credibility, commercial and business development experience and senior international leadership.

Bremer said his immediate priorities will include supporting disciplined execution of the clinical and regulatory program, maintaining focus on capital and organizational readiness, and preparing for potential strategic pathways that may follow topline results.

“I was attracted by the underlying science, the advanced clinical program for NUZ-001 and the opportunity to contribute to the development of a potential new treatment for people living with ALS,” Bremer said in a statement.

Before his career in medicine and pharmaceuticals, Bremer represented Germany as an elite swimmer at the 1992 Olympic Games and captained the German National Swimming Team at the 1996 Olympic Games.
