TotalEnergies exits distributed solar market in Europe with €170 million asset sale to Amarenco, AMPYR

PARIS: TotalEnergies has completed the divestment of its distributed solar portfolio, approximately 170 megawatts, across seven European countries as part of a broader strategy to refocus on large-scale utility-scale projects, the French energy giant announced Thursday.

The company sold the assets to Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy. The portfolio consists primarily of rooftop installations located in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Luxembourg, marking the end of TotalEnergies’ distributed generation activities in these countries.

“Our business model is less suited for projects generally below 3 megawatts than for large utility-scale power plants that offer economies of scale,” the company said in a statement.

Amarenco and AMPYR Distributed Energy will continue operating the assets to ensure an uninterrupted supply to existing customers.

TotalEnergies said the divestment would not affect its renewable energy development pace. The company installed 8 gigawatts of gross renewable capacity over the past 12 months, reaching 35 GW by the end of March 2026, and aims to maintain that annual pace through 2030 to exceed 75 GW.

The company also reported holding nearly 36 GW of gross renewable power generation capacity as of late April 2026, with a goal of achieving over 100 terawatt-hours of net electricity production by 2030. TotalEnergies is building a portfolio that combines renewables such as solar, onshore wind and offshore wind with flexible assets including combined-cycle gas turbines and storage to deliver clean firm power to customers.

TotalEnergies is a global integrated energy company producing and marketing oil, biofuels, natural gas, biogas, low-carbon hydrogen, renewables and electricity, with approximately 100,000 employees operating in about 120 countries.
