According to reports, the Commission’s concern: unfair trading conditions, inadequate compensation, and limited opt-outs for publishers, potentially leveraging search dominance to entrench AI services.

Google argues the complaints risk stifling innovation in a competitive market; publishers counter that AI Overviews undermine the web’s “index-and-retrieve” bargain and cannibalize traffic.
