
BRISTOL: Electro-Mechanical, LLC, a leading U.S. manufacturer of medium voltage switchgear and electrical apparatus, announced Friday it has acquired Powercon Corporation, a Maryland-based provider of custom-designed power distribution systems.
Founded in 1959, Powercon brings more than six decades of engineering expertise in medium voltage switchgear, e-houses, and modular substation power systems. The acquisition strengthens Electro-Mechanical’s ability to serve utility, data center, and infrastructure markets with advanced, integrated power distribution solutions.

Together, we can deliver a comprehensive suite of medium voltage switchgear and related solutions to utility and critical infrastructure customers across the country.”
Electro-Mechanical, founded in 1958 and headquartered in Bristol, Virginia, employs more than 700 people across six manufacturing facilities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The company markets its products under brands including Federal Pacific, Line Power, Mirus International, GridConnex, and Coordinated Designs & Controls.
Mike Hattan, general manager of Powercon, said the partnership will support the company’s long-term growth while preserving its legacy of quality and service. “Electro-Mechanical shares our commitment to service, safety, and quality, and we are excited to be able to offer expanded capabilities to serve our customers,” Hattan said.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
EdgePoint Capital Advisors and Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP advised Powercon on the transaction. UBS Investment Bank and England & Company served as financial advisors to Electro-Mechanical, with Greenberg Traurig, LLP providing legal counsel.
