LONDON: Intertek Group plc, a global provider of Total Quality Assurance services, announced Monday it has agreed to acquire TESIS – Tecnologia e Qualidade de Sistemas em Engenharia Ltda, a leading building products testing and assurance firm based in São Paulo, Brazil.
The acquisition comes as Brazil’s construction industry, valued at $120 billion, is projected to grow 4.8% annually through 2033. Rising demand for housing, urbanization and government programs aimed at improving affordable housing and sanitation are driving the need for quality assurance services in the sector.
Founded in 1988, TESIS operates a laboratory in São Paulo, offering testing services for building products such as faucets, valves, adhesive mortars and paints. The company employs more than 80 people and reported revenues of £3.7 million ($4.7 million) in 2024.
Intertek CEO André Lacroix said the deal expands the company’s presence in Brazil’s construction market, which he called “the largest in South America.”
“This acquisition opens up an attractive high-margin sector benefiting from strong growth drivers,” Lacroix said. “We welcome the TESIS team and look forward to bringing our quality, safety and sustainability solutions to Brazil’s construction industry.”
The transaction is expected to complement Intertek’s building products testing business in North America and boost demand for its ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification) solutions.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
