SYDNEY: NewPeak Metals Ltd (ASX: NPM) announced Monday the appointment of Mark Purcell as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Effective immediately, Purcell will spearhead the company’s strategic shift to focus on producing vanadium, a key resource for the burgeoning Vanadium Flow Battery (VFB) industry.
Current CEO David Mason, who played a pivotal role in initiating the company’s transformation, recommended the leadership change to align with NewPeak’s evolving goals. Mason will transition to the role of part-time Executive Director for three months, ensuring a smooth handover. Following this, he will continue as a Non-Executive Director while Purcell assumes the additional title of Managing Director.
Purcell brings over 15 years of experience in exploration, mining, and investment banking. Previously, he led SQX Resources Limited through a successful IPO and drilling program in 2023.
He also held leadership roles with Rio Tinto Coal Australia and Peabody Energy, and worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs and Rothschild & Co. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from the University of Queensland and an MBA from the University of New South Wales.
Brian Moller, NewPeak’s Chair, praised Purcell’s appointment, stating, “Mark’s energy and vision align perfectly with NewPeak’s transformation into the critical minerals and renewable energy sector. We also deeply appreciate David Mason’s years of leadership and his continued contributions as we embark on this exciting new chapter.”
