Electriq Power (NYSE: ELIQ), a provider of intelligent energy storage solutions, has announced an expansion of its collaborations with Barrio Eléctrico and SEDC Solar to bring energy storage to households in Puerto Rico and Washington D.C., respectively.
Both Barrio Eléctrico and SEDC Solar focus on installing solar and energy storage systems with zero upfront costs for their communities. Barrio Eléctrico serves Puerto Rican homes, while SEDC Solar covers households, small businesses, and churches in the Washington D.C. region. Electriq’s PowerPod 2 battery-based energy storage systems will help households and organizations reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and lower their electricity expenses.
Electriq has been partnering with Barrio Eléctrico and SEDC Solar since mid-2022 to provide reliable and affordable electricity to families in Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. The success of these programs has led to a deeper commitment to deploying Electriq’s battery storage systems.
Frank Magnotti, CEO of Electriq Power, expressed enthusiasm for expanding access to clean energy, stating, “Access to clean, dependable energy should not be limited due to financial constraints. We are delighted to be working with partners like Barrio Eléctrico and SEDC Solar who hold those same beliefs and have the drive to make a significant impact on the lives of many families and small businesses.”
In Puerto Rico, Barrio Eléctrico collaborates with local groups and municipalities to establish a solar economy that provides affordable solar energy and battery storage to homes and families. The Department of Energy’s $450 million commitment from the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience will significantly boost residential solar and energy storage initiatives.
Lauren Rosenblatt, Founder and Acting CEO of Barrio Eléctrico, emphasized the goal of empowering communities to take control of their electricity, saying, “Our vision is to empower communities to take control of their own electricity. With committed partners like Electriq, we aim to make that vision a reality as quickly as possible.”
In Washington D.C., SEDC Solar offers qualifying homeowners, churches, and businesses access to rooftop solar panels, battery installation, and long-term maintenance at no cost to the property owner. The program not only provides clean and reliable energy but also creates jobs in technical installation and repairs, as well as sales and marketing roles.
Thomas Jones, President of SEDC Solar, highlighted the program’s impact, stating, “Clean energy means good jobs, protection against rising utility bills, and a healthier future for our environment for generations to come. We are proud to partner with Electriq to expand the program and deliver those benefits to even more residents and businesses in the D.C. area.”
