Intel and Arm sign agreement to enable low-power compute SoC designs

Posted on April 17, 2023April 17, 2023

Intel Foundry Services (IFS) and Arm have joined forces to offer chip designers the ability to build low-power compute system-on-chips (SoCs) using Intel’s 18A process.

The collaboration will focus on mobile SoC designs initially, but will also extend to automotive, IoT, data center, aerospace, and government applications.

With this partnership, Arm customers can leverage Intel’s advanced 18A process technology for their next-generation mobile SoCs. This technology includes advanced transistor technologies that can deliver improved power and performance.

Additionally, IFS’s manufacturing footprint, which includes capacity in the United States and Europe, will benefit Arm customers designing these SoCs. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said the collaboration would expand the market for IFS and enable any fabless company to access best-in-class CPU IP and the power of an open system foundry with leading-edge process technology.

This partnership is part of Intel’s IDM 2.0 strategy to invest in leading-edge manufacturing capacity around the world, and to serve sustained long-term demand for chips.
