PowerTransitions acquires 1,242 MW New York power plant, expands portfolio to 1.8 GW

HOUSTON: PowerTransitions, an independent power producer focused on redeveloping legacy energy facilities, said Monday it has acquired the 1,242-megawatt Roseton Generating Facility from a subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International LLC.

The natural gas-fired plant, which has supplied power into NYISO Zone G since 1974, will be redeveloped into a multi-use energy campus that includes new energy storage systems, the company said.

Its existing grid connections and scale make it suited for co-location development, allowing PowerTransitions to add capacity to bolster reliability for the surrounding grid, according to the announcement.

The acquisition increases PowerTransitions’ total generation assets under operation to approximately 1.8 gigawatts across eight power stations in PJM, NYISO and ISO-NE. The transaction is the latest addition to the company’s platform since Partners Group acquired PowerTransitions last year.

“The agreement to acquire Roseton is a transformative step for PowerTransitions and a natural complement to the 323-megawatt New York portfolio announced in June,” said Sean Long, co-founder and chief executive officer.

“Roseton is one of the largest and well-maintained operating power plants in the Hudson Valley, and its existing grid connections and site infrastructure present an exceptional opportunity to develop a multi-use energy campus at scale to support reliability in the sub-region.”

Long said the company plans to work with the plant’s workforce and surrounding communities to ensure continued reliability as electricity demand grows in the region while investing in new reliable energy assets on the campus.

The company handles all aspects of redevelopment, from deconstruction and site remediation to development, financing and ownership of new generation, storage and powered land for advanced manufacturers and large loads.
