ESPOO, FINLAND: Nokia announced today that it will invest €360 million in software, hardware and chip design at its Ulm and Nuremberg sites in Germany. The investment is part of a four-year project funded by the German government and the states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
The project aims to develop high-performance systems-on-chips based on a digital twin, which will be used in radio and optical products for 5G-Advanced and 6G mobile communications. The project will also focus on improving the energy efficiency of the systems to support the European Green Deal.
Nokia hopes to strengthen its chip design expertise and the European value chain in the field of microelectronics for future technologies such as 6G and AI. The project will also involve close cooperation with research institutes and universities, and enable complex applications for the metaverse and digitalization.
The project is seen as an important milestone for Nokia and the telecommunications industry in Germany and Europe, as it will enhance their competitiveness and innovation in the global market.
