Adacel Technologies acquires virtual air traffic control tower

Posted on February 24, 2022February 24, 2022

MONTREAL, CANADA: Adacel Technologies Limited, an industry leader in advanced air traffic management solutions and simulation and training systems, announced the acquisition of a virtual air traffic control (ATC) tower for single and multiple aerodrome operations.

This acquisition, including the intellectual property, accelerates Adacel’s entrance in the fast-growing market segment of virtual ATC tower solutions, which is estimated to grow from about US$40 million in 2019 to over US$500 million by 2027.

Built on modular, open architecture principles, the tower is suitable for a variety of functional needs, including integration with existing or new air traffic management, communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.

Its original creator, Cybernetica, with offices in Tallinn, Estonia, developed this virtual tower solution for EANS – Estonian Air Navigation Services.

“We are thrilled with the virtual tower’s acquisition and its progressive technological capabilities. Adacel is committed to ensuring a smooth transition, and we are excited to welcome our new customer and team members,” shares Daniel Verret, Adacel’s CEO.

“This new solution fits in perfectly with our long-term strategic vision and our enduring mission to advance safety and efficiency in aviation,” continues Mr. Verret.

The virtual ATC tower system is currently in the final stages of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) before moving through the certification and deployment processes with EANS. As part of the agreement, Adacel will deploy EANS Virtual Tower for operational use, which will mark the company’s first successful delivery in the virtual ATC tower segment.

“With this strategic sale, Cybernetica consolidates its main offerings, which centre around e-governance technologies, cybersecurity services and secure software development. We’re pleased to have found a match with Adacel, a proven leader in the air traffic control industry. It’s a great way forward for the team, too, fulfilling its global mission through Adacel,” explained Oliver Väärtnõu, CEO at Cybernetica.

Ivar Värk, CEO of the Estonian Air Navigation Services: “We feel that the acquisition of Cybernetica’s digital tower is a significant step that also benefits our needs and supports our goal to digitise all Estonian regional airports by the year 2025. We thank Cybernetica for the good cooperation and welcome future cooperation with Adacel. We are happy that the key team and its location will remain in Estonia, and we can continue with the digital tower project without any disruption.”
