LONDON: Getech, a global leader in subsurface resource location, has announced the incorporation of HyMaroc Limited, a 50:50 joint venture with transition energy company Sound Energy plc, aimed at unlocking natural hydrogen and helium resources in Morocco.
The formation of the subsidiary follows the successful completion of a regional screening study conducted under an Exploration Collaboration Agreement signed on October 28, 2024. The study identified several areas of elevated geological favourability for natural hydrogen and helium—enough to justify progressing to the next phase of exploration.
HyMaroc Limited will lead efforts to secure exclusive rights for exploration and resource development. The company plans to advance toward localized geophysical surveys and drilling to assess subsurface potential.
Max Brouwers, Chief Business Development Officer at Getech, stated, “Getech’s exploration strategies for hydrogen and helium tap into our vast global geophysics database and our deep understanding of subsurface systems. The joint venture with Sound Energy is a natural evolution of this strategy and positions us to capitalize on growing demand for cleaner energy vectors.”
The partners emphasized that the collaboration involves no significant expenditure commitments at this stage and enables both firms to maintain full flexibility in their commercial approaches.
HyMaroc Limited is expected to play a pivotal role in developing Morocco’s emerging clean energy sector, with further technical evaluations and licensing negotiations to follow.
