ATHENS: METLEN Energy & Metals Plc said Tuesday it has acquired Joule, a Greek energy software company, in a move aimed at strengthening its digital capabilities in managing renewable energy and storage portfolios.
The acquisition centers on Joule’s jHub platform, a system for remote monitoring, control and optimization of renewable energy and storage assets. The platform enables real-time monitoring, production forecasting, remote curtailment commands and digital services for producers through an integrated customer portal.
METLEN said the deal enhances its Aggregator business, which manages approximately 1,450 renewable energy units with a total installed capacity of 3 gigawatts across all major renewable technologies. The portfolio recently added two energy storage units totaling 378 megawatts.
The company’s Aggregator business also operates in Italy and Romania and is expanding into Bulgaria.
In an environment of increased production curtailments and negative pricing periods, real-time portfolio management has become critical, METLEN said. The integration of jHub gives the company technological autonomy in that function, allowing more effective optimization of energy assets.
The platform also creates opportunities for new digital energy services, including storage system management applications, solutions for dispatchable renewable units and commercial management of hybrid portfolios combining renewables and storage.
For producers working with METLEN, the investment provides access to real-time asset visibility, advanced reporting and data analytics, as well as new energy flexibility services.
Under the acquisition agreement, METLEN will retain Joule’s team across product development, engineering and go-to-market activities.
